Google My Business is a free service that enables you to list your business location on Google Maps and local search results. You can display your business hours, contact details and link to your company website. A new feature on Google My Business will allow you to post article links or upcoming events. First, click the green ‘Start Now’ button on https://www.google.com/business/. Sign into your existing Google account. If you do not have one, you need to create it.
Next, search for your business by its name and address to see if anything comes up. If there are no results, have no fear, just go to where it says ‘add your business’ and complete the required information. Claim your page by confirming that you are ‘authorized to manage this business.’ To verify your business, Google will send you a verification code in one of three ways. Simply choose your preferred method.
Over the phone
Postcard mailed to your business location
Email
After you get the verification code, type it into your Google My Business page and you will officially have it. But do not stop there, Google My Business offers a lot of detailed options that you should at least consider. These extra details will make your page more effective, which will translate into customers and profits;
Category
Putting your business in the proper category, such as a restaurant, will make it easier for customers to find you.
Business Hours
This detail is a no-brainer. People need to know when you are open and closed.
Phone number
Another no-brainer, people need an easy and quick way to contact you. Especially if the internet is not an option.
Website
Add the company website link so that people can look at it and get more information.
Appointment URL
If your business involves making appointments, then your page definitely needs an appointment URL. The easier it is for customers to make appointments, the better your business will run.
Photos
Google My Business allows you to add up to 10 photos. Image is important, so be sure to at least add your business logo and a cover photo. Upload photos that represent the kind of business you own.
Reviews
Ask your customers to leave a review on Google that can be added to the page. If there are enough positive reviews, your business will get a 5 star rating on Google My Business. Most people read reviews before deciding to do business with a company. So do not take them for granted, even the negative ones. How you respond to negative reviews will show potential customers that you are committed to the best service possible.
Posts
If your website has a blog, Google My Business will share its content and any special events coming up. These posts last for one week. Google will remind you to update it.
Google My Business manages multiple listings together and shares information with customers. Your Google My Business Page will improve your visibility on local searches. Once the page is created, you need to, literally, make it work for you. Google makes it very easy to manage and update your page. Do not just set it and forget it.
